For some strange reason, after using FreeBSD-9.1-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso from the link in https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD in a VirtualBox install breaks portage completely, i.e., nothing can be installed or upgraded. In the install phase, I get messages such as /usr/lib/portage/python3.4/ebuild-helpers/prepstrip: line 291: /var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/python-3.5.1-r3/temp/sh-np-4192441162: Interrupted system call For all packages. I tried a stage2 and a stage3 tar balls with no difference between them. Using a mfsBSD Live CD (the first one in the list http://mfsbsd.vx.sk/) with FreeBSD 10.3 works as a charm so far.
Probably, this bug is a duplicate of bug 574426. (and see also bug 447810) Please try to update app-shells/bash. Gentoo/FreeBSD has a lot of issues. Please check my script... https://gitweb.gentoo.org/proj/gentoo-bsd.git/plain/scripts/automatic_bugfix.sh

The OpenRC version that comes with the stage 3 is also broken, it is not possible to run services such as sshd because of the lack of /sbin/openrc-run. Updating OpenRC was enough to make it work. If you don't mind, I am planning on making a stage 3 from my current install if I can make it go through the steps to 10.3.
*-fbsd is gone.
