We switched to php 7 and no longer need 5.6 however phpmyadmin is keeping it pulled in.

There's no direct dependency on php-5.6 in the phpmyadmin ebuilds.
Please check / show the output of emerge -uDavN @world to be sure what's pulling in php-5.6.

i checked before i made this. phpmyadmin pulls in php 5.6
