same here. Why there is a need for that if I have "-systemd" use flag? And I don't need systemd

It probably isn't needed. I'll have to see if I can fix it using different configure options, or by patching the configure script.
Comment 7 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2016-06-07 03:41:34 UTC
It's part of the api-service command, and there's no configure flag to disable it. It came from this pull request:

   https://github.com/coreos/rkt/pull/2662

Which fixed this issue:

   https://github.com/coreos/rkt/issues/1970
Comment 8 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2016-06-07 04:04:53 UTC
If you export ac_cv_header_systemd_sd_journal_h=yes to bypass the configure check, then it fails like this:

# github.com/coreos/go-systemd/sdjournal
build-rkt-1.7.0/gopath/src/github.com/coreos/rkt/Godeps/_workspace/src/github.com/coreos/go-systemd/sdjournal/journal.go:27:33: fatal error: systemd/sd-journal.h: No such file or directory
 // #include <systemd/sd-journal.h>

I suppose we might be able to patch it to use a temporary copy of the systemd header files.
Comment 9 Oleh 2016-06-19 11:44:57 UTC
any progress in here? it's quite unfortunate change by upstream. i'd imagine this headers used at runtime...
Comment 10 Török Edwin 2016-07-16 17:21:47 UTC
upstream has added a --enable-sdjournal=no configure flag: https://github.com/coreos/rkt/issues/2866#issuecomment-230275740

The rkt-1.10.1 ebuild includes that patch, and passes --enable-sdjournal=no to econf when USE=systemd is not enabled:
