Before you state that is not a packaging bug and close this as resolved upstream, I got in touch with upstream and they say that works for they and they suggest me to open a gentoo bug because the issue is here. After the plasma5 upgrade, all application that normally are able to create a systray icon, fails. I see only the systray icon started at stratup (networkmanager, clipboard, device notifications) When I try to start e.g. kmail/kopete/quassel/hexchat, I don't see the systay icon. /usr/bin/xembedsniproxy is working correctly. I tried to stop it, restart plasma manually and try with and without it. I obviously read https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/Plasma_5_upgrade#Missing_systray_icons but it is not the case (moreover I tried also sni-qt) Feel free to ask whatever info you need, I'm also available via irc. Thanks.
Please provde selected use flags for kde-plasma/plasma-desktop.

Because in another system where I have the same USE without sni-qt it works perfectly. Anyway I have also tried to enable them.
I resolved the issue by myself after comparing all kde installed packages with the working machines, comes up that I miss the dbus USE for kde-frameworks/knotifications kde-plasma/plasma-workspace.

Thanks a lot for debugging. I was able to reproduce by toggling the dbus USE flag in plasma-workspace but not knotifications, so I've removed it entirely in plasma-workspace-5.6.5. https://gitweb.gentoo.org/proj/kde.git/commit/?id=b1de8610d85c72a135cd83a20d5df5ef697b17af
5.6.5 is in tree now
