Bug 58512 – ide-disk is not automatically detected in the liveCD 2004.2

When I boot from the liveCD 2004.2 gentoo kernel (with agpart, with and without ataraid) the IDE Disks arent detected. I had to load ide-disk with "modprobe ide-disk" manually. 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from the live-CD with "gentoo agpart ataraid"
Actual Results:  
/dev/hda1 and /dev/hda2 are missing

Expected Results:  
ide-disk should be loaded automatically

Comuter Information:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ASUS K8V Deluxe (VIA K8T800)
HD: Samsung 80 GB 7200rpm, ATA 133

Don't know about a million, but here is my input also.

No harddrives are found on my system ether. Here is my emerge info on my compaq R3000 running your previous release of gentoo.

ran into the same problem here though it did pick up on the serial ata perfectly fine...

Same for me too on a Tyan S2882. I had to "insmod ide-disk", then it was ok. SATA worked great. tg3 and e100 had to be loaded for the Ethernet controllers but that's nothing new. The "noapic" kernel option had to be used for the LiveCD environment with the smp kernel.

This is a known problem with the 2004.2 LiveCD.  Simply "modprobe ide-disk" and you are good to go.  This is also already documented in the Gentoo/amd64 Installation Technotes in the Errata section:
