Created attachment 436332 [details] WiredZone quote Attached WiredZone quote, does not include $75 for assembly & testing, nor the spare HDD and CAT6a patch cable.
Created attachment 436334 [details] ThinkMate quote ThinkMate quote, no disks. Base cost $10401. Notes: - NVME variant of chassis, - higher spec CPU - 3 year warranty included. - Disks would add another ~$3900 to cost.
Created attachment 436336 [details] Dell R430 quote Dell R430 quote. $4416.68USD. No disks. Notes: - that this is a single server, not a twin server, quantity required would be two. - Higher spec CPU than WiredZone quote. - Only 1Gbit ethernet, not 10gbit. - Disks add another ~$3900USD. - Warranty: 3 years Estimated total: $12733.36USD
Warranty comparison: WiredZone: 3 years labour, 1 year parts, 120 days advanced DOA overnight ThinkMate: 3 year depot warranty (return for repair, no parts support) Dell: 3 year basic, 5x10 hardware only, 5x10 NBD on-site.
Pricing apples-to-apples attempt: WiredZone: CPU 2620v4: $433.20/ea. CPU 2650v4: $1,199.45/ea. Total CPU price difference: $3065.00 USD Effective total price: $12769.00 USD ThinkMate+disks: effective total price: $14301 USD * note NVME chassis variant still, some disk slots usable as NVME only. Dell+disks: Effective total price: $12733.36 USD * note no 10GBit ethernet. * Note v3 variant of CPU; no v4 variant available.
Infra's preference here is for the WiredZone server, rather than the ThinkMate or Dell options. We don't feel a need for the additional CPU horsepower, and would prefer to have the other disk slots available for non-NVME, and do want 10GBit ethernet for the crossover. The Dell could get 10GBit cards added.
I support the request and infra's preference
I support the request and infras preference.

dabbott, antarus: I'm waiting for one more trustee to vote, other than myself, then I'll fire the order.
Approved from me as well.
Thanks everybody. Order fired with the vendor now :-).
These servers are in operation: ovenbird.gentoo.org, oriole.gentoo.org The first Atom server has moved to this new environment, and it also hosts the clangtest VM for the GSoC project. (don't close this bug till I finish the accounting for it).
