New features (from ChkTeX.readme)
   Modifications and additions since v1.6:
     * Improved the build system
     * Better fixes for memory access errors
   Modifications and additions since v1.5:
     * Fixed a crash when running from emacs
     * Fixed a crash when checking our own manual
     * Added \verb* support

The ebuild relies on the source file from the gentoo-mirrors. Until they will be 
provided from there, you may manually download it. You have to rename the tarball 
from ${PN}.tar.gz to ${P}.tar.gz to allow the ebuild finding it in /usr/portage/
distfiles.
