Description Olivier Diotte 2016-04-30 17:31:50 UTC
My system seems to have blockers related to upgrading to KDE 5 right now, so I'm holding it off.

emerge -uDNa @world was causing a KDE 5 upgrade because kdelibs had the handbook USE which pulled in kde-apps/khelpcenter-5.5.5

My workaround was to add these lines to /etc/portage/package.mask/kde:
kde-frameworks/*
>=kde-apps/khelpcenter-5

Although I suppose that just the latter would have worked.

emerge --info

kdelibs doesn't strictly strictly require any khelpcenter (the USE flag only exists there to help ensure it's installed for anyone who wants to use handbooks) and by extension does not care which version is installed.

I don't know about that, but surely it is a problem that a system that otherwise wouldn't upgrade to KDE 5 does so if the 'handbook' USE is enabled, right?

Also, if that is the case, then the USE flag description should probably be changed, as it mentions KDE4 explicitly:

equery -N uses =kde-base/kdelibs-4.14.16 | grep handbook
 + + handbook            : Enable handbooks generation for KDE4.
Comment 3 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2016-04-30 21:19:29 UTC
If you don't use a kde profile (where khelpcenter:5 is masked) you will need to manually add a mask here and there to disable KF5-based upgrades. The same will happen with stabilisation of KDE Applications, where a lot of KF5-based applications will be advertised as upgrades to the existing ones.
Comment 4 Johannes Huber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2016-05-01 07:41:32 UTC
After stabilization of KDE Applications 15.12.3. kde-apps/khelpcenter:4 will be cleaned. As kde-apps/kelpcenter:5 can be used in Plasma 4 and with other applications in kde-apps category in slot 4. The dependency is correct.
