Some members of this project, both users and developers, wish to have a ML made available for addition to the archival records of gentoo. While the numbers are low, the interest is apparent for this to be made. The members are aware of the need for both addition to the alias files in the gentoo server as well as subscription to the would be new ML. The one condition common to all is to have bugmail excluded form the ML since it is already made amply available to all.
I think there's an argument for bug mails to go to the mailing list .. if users are notified at the outset, they can choose to opt in/out if they consider it's a problem. Another possibility is making it an opt-out "option" for the ML itself, I'm sure this should be trivial to implement. Ie. you could have a few options which 'types' of email you received on your ML 'subscription'. More flexible than the Bugzilla and being opt-out instead of opt-in by default. I do feel that the creation of a ML increases exposure to the P-M project and its 'jobs' so that more people can get involved if they see fit. It also increases transparency both within the project and from outside, which should serve to provide better accountability both to Gentoo and the community at large.

I'm not sure this is wise, given that it will create a significant amount of noise on the mailing list (as well as the archival burden that goes with that). > Another possibility is making it an opt-out > "option" for the ML itself, I'm sure this should be trivial to implement. > Ie. you could have a few options which 'types' of email you received on your > ML 'subscription'. I haven't seen a configuration "page", and am not sure what options are available to users/subscribers of mlmmj, but this does seem to be unnecessarily complex. That being said, technically you could also just create a filter in your client, if that's the route that's chosen. I'm not sure if you're aware, but instead of having all bug mail going to the mailing list, you could instead simply "watch" proxy-maint@gentoo.org on Bugzilla - the option should be in your Email preferences, I believe.

Interesting .. will have to give that a roll ..

As mentioned by Coacher in #gentoo-proxy-maint, there's also the Bugzilla Whine's feature. https://bugs.gentoo.org/editwhines.cgi
The one thing missing is a name. Can you discuss internally and post your final suggestion here? Same goes for other discussion, please do that via your project's channels.

(In reply to Alex Legler from comment #5) > The one thing missing is a name. The name should match against: /^gentoo-[^@]+@lists\.gentoo\.org$/ mgorny did raise some concerns on IRC/#gentoo-infra about avoiding potentially private bugs going to a P-M mailing list, as well as security concerns for password resets. I'll ask that he re-iterate them here, for everybody on the p-m alias to see.
By popular request, gentoo-proxy-maint@lists.gentoo.org As far as bug mail is concerned, in my view it will mostly clog and spam the ML. The bug mail is already able to be controlled by the means mentioned, and they can be accessed via the alias itself or by advanced searches, even saved searches, in bugzilla. Thank you
Fired in cfengine etc. Give it an hour or two to be created, then it should work.
The list seems to be missing from https://www.gentoo.org/get-involved/mailing-lists/all-lists.html and archives.gentoo.org
Its now listed but produce a HTTP 500 error: https://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-proxy-maint/

Most, but not all of the mail is there already. Just some of the early emails are missing (25 of 38 are present).
