Description Morten Sjoegren 2004-07-23 15:54:54 UTC
After "Glibc 2.3.3..20040420" became unmasked, I can't run X11 with nvidia's driver (6106 and 5336),
Xfce4 starts up and crash right away/exits X11.
KDE 3.2.3 starts up, run through the splash-screen and when crash at first left mouse click.

This behavior doesn't exists with the "nv"-videodriver in xorg.conf.

And I don't think this is an issue with 4KB stack in the kernel, since 6106 should be compatible.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Bootstrap and emerge system with latest glibc, and emerge xfce4 and/or KDE
2. Configure xorg.conf to use nvidia's binary drivers.
3. run startxfce4

Actual Results:
X11 crash.

Expected Results:
xfce4 or kde started

And I use love-sources-2.6.7-love5 as kernel, but from passed expirence I'd seen
that it isn't this kernel-source, thats the program (tried gentoo-dev-source-2.6.7)

I am experiencing random system freezes (everything locks up, including mouse and keyboard; CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work) running xorg-x11 and nvidia-kernel 1.0.6106-r1. I encounter about 1 or 2 freezes an hour while actively working in KDE.

I've tried using the "nv" driver instead of "nvidia" and so far there have been no lockups.

I run xorg-x11-6.7.0-r1, gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11.

I am experiencing a similar problem. On startup, KDE always freezes before the loading sequence finishes. Fluxbox will freeze within a minute. I'm using kde-3.3.0, nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111, xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2. Works fine if I use the nv driver instead of the nvidia driver.

Hmmm... See if you can remote access the machine after a lockup and get a log kernel or Xorg or both preferably...

Can you kill Xorg and then the machine work properly or is it a hard lockup?
Comment 4 Andrew Bevitt 2004-10-04 04:09:49 UTC
First try updating to nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r2

This is a dead bug... closing. If youu still have the problem with recent verisons, please reopen with updated version info.
