Description groepaz 2016-04-14 17:18:07 UTC
ever since i updated to plasma5, the desktop keeps forgetting its settings. after a reboot, login, or even when coming back from locked screen, the desktop icons are scrambled randomly, or the settings are lost alltogether. often i can't change the desktop layout anymore because the respective dropdown box is suddenly greyed out. unfortunately this is kindof hard to reproduce, it seems to happen after random actions on the desktop. sometimes simply right clicking on something and hitting escape after that is enough to screw it up. i remember the same thing happened when i updated to kde4 - and it somehow fixed itself after a while. which doesnt make it any less annoying however.

please let me know what i can do to help debug this, it pretty much makes the desktop unusable for me :(
Comment 1 Michael Palimaka (kensington) gentoo-dev 2016-04-15 13:06:01 UTC
Is this a dup of bug #579546?
Comment 2 groepaz 2016-04-15 13:14:22 UTC
i dont think so - generally things work, and so does the desktop ... until i do "something" (its hard to tell what exactly triggers the problem) and then it screws up.

in the meantime i figured out that killing and restarting plasmashell will "fix" it.

Is this still an issue with latest stable? If so, please add emerge --info.
Comment 4 groepaz 2016-07-27 15:48:37 UTC
unfortunately still the same problem :(

Comment 5 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2016-11-06 13:03:54 UTC
Any update with Plasma-5.7.5, or even 5.8.3 (which I can only recommend)?
Comment 6 groepaz 2016-11-07 14:19:49 UTC
same behaviour with 5.7.5 ... it feels like it happens less often, but since i have no idea what exactly triggers the problem that doesnt say a lot :)
Comment 7 Johannes Huber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-06-05 11:40:01 UTC
There is to less information given to reproduce. It is not clear if this is an packaging issue at all. Closing then.
