While emerging latest rc of kde applications I discovered that kde-apps/krdc has a new dependency on net-dns/avahi. Not wanting to install it (I don't need nor like it) I tried to put it in package.provided and, surprise surprise, the package builds, installs and works fine... Is it possible/wise, to remove the dependency from the krdc ebuild?
You could have just set USE=zeroconf which removes the build- and runtime dependency.
(In reply to Andreas Sturmlechner from comment #1) > You could have just set USE=zeroconf which removes the build- and runtime > dependency. There is no such USE flag in kde-apps/krdc-16.03.90: # equery u =kde-apps/krcd-16.03.90 [ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation] [ : I - package is installed with flag ] [ Colors : set, unset ] * Found these USE flags for kde-apps/krdc-16.03.90: U I - - debug : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Quality_Assurance/Backtraces + + handbook : Enable handbooks generation for KDE4. + + rdesktop : Enable runtime dependency for net-misc/rdesktop + + vnc : Enable VNC (remote desktop viewer) support
