gentoo-2004.1 universal:
When configuring the Lilo boot loader with
boot=/dev/hda21 in lilo.conf /sbin/lilo

Fatal: raid-setup: stat("/dev/hda21")
Previous versions of Gentoo did not have this problem
(e.g. Gentoo1.4) with the same S-ATA hard disk.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Configure Bootloader
2./sbin/lilo
3.

hda21? Is that a typo?
Comment 2 imagination 2004-07-21 06:40:17 UTC
No typo, but the 21st partition of hda.
('mount /dev/hda21 /mnt/gentoo/boot' for installation)
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-21 07:12:46 UTC
You do know that by default, MAKEDEV only does 20 device nodes for hda, right?

You would have to manually makenod the 21st one, I believe.

My goodness - I did NOT know that. Thank you
very much for the hint. So forget about this
"bug". Nevertheless, it might help somebody
else unproficient.

No problem at all... I'm just glad we came up with a quick and easy resolution.
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:24:22 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
