Description Billy DeVincentis 2016-03-20 00:20:44 UTC
When using bundled-libs use flag, fonts appear very small in kde but appear normal size in Gnome.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2016-03-22 20:10:47 UTC
@fonts, yngwin: This seems to happen when the bundled fontconfig is used.

Do we apply any gentoo-specific patches in fontconfig?

Unfortunately, I currently cannot start vmware, I get a loop on signal 11. I am using the bundled-libs useflag with gcc 5
Comment 3 Billy DeVincentis 2016-04-01 01:36:28 UTC
Okay, here is an update.
bundled fontconfig lib was causing problems for vmware to start. I got vmware going by replacing bundled fontconfig lib with system fontconfig lib and renaming it. Vmware now starts correctly but fonts are the same. I went a step further in trying to do the same with the gtk-x11 lib but with that lib, vmware just gave error messages trying to start.

Since vmware is running with the fontconfig lib from the system and that is not helping this issue, what other lib may I try swapping out to try to correct this issue?
Comment 4 Billy DeVincentis 2016-04-16 14:51:45 UTC
Okay, I have solved font issues. With the current issues starting vmware with swapped libs and shipped libs, gtk theme is the default clearlooks gtkrc. This file has to be modified
/opt/vmware/lib/vmware/libconf/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

gtk-icon-theme-name = "Clearlooks"
gtk-theme-name = "Clearlooks"
gtk-font-name = "DejaVu Sans 16"

Now it looks correct

Billy, is this still necessary under current 12.5.4 ebuild?

I'm neither using KDE nor GNOME as a desktop, but AWESOME.

Nevertheless using KDE and GNOME applications,
I don't have the need to manually adjust here.

Perhaps close as "OBSOLETE" ?

Problem still exists, Even though I am on Fedora, each time I install a new version of this software, I rewrite this file so that my fonts will be acceptable.

REFERENCE: Bug 616958 : 12.5.7 version bump

Having no "gtk" set in my global USE flags in make.conf,

. . . app-emulation/vmware-workstation-12.5.7.5813279

does not install any file named "gtkrc" below "/opt/vmware/" any more.

VMware Products have been removed from Main Portage Tree during Nov-2017.

Further development has been relegated to [vmware] Overlay.

Situation as of today, 30-Nov-2017:
Workstation : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 634770
Player : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 639162
Modules : stable in [vmware] = 308.5.8 / released = 329.0.0 : Bug 634862
