After following the installation manual carefully, while doing a stage 1 installation from the universal LiveCD without networking, I've executed bootstrap.sh, which tried to access the internet, even though I've already copied the /distfiles sources from the CD to the appropriate folder on the hard-drive.

You can't do a stage 1 without network, only a stage 3.
