The provided file /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 contains comments that mention that it only applies to 2.4 series kernels. This is great. However, it goes on to say that 2.5 series kernels should use the /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.5 file. This is outdated and should refer to 2.6 series kernels.

Yes, there is also an /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file. This bug is just in a *comment* in the kernel-2.4 file. That's why I marked it as "trivial."
