One paragraph describing kernel options with network-less installs on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=7 reads in full: "If you are performing a network-less install you can't pick any of the available kernels as we only provide sources for a few of them. If this is the case, you are restricted to using gentoo-sources, vanilla-sources, development-sources or gentoo-dev-sources." The first sentence seems rather unclear to me. Perhaps it would clearer to have something like "When performing a network-less install your kernel choices will be limited to those provided on the CD." Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Thanks for reporting. I've reworded that paragraph to make it more clear while retaining the list for those users (as there is no really userfriendly way to find out what sources are available on the CD).
