I would be very thankful if the patch that this URL appears to be talking about could be applied to the unrtf build, and hence stop the null pointer param in convert.c errors.

I have since figured out that this bug was triggered by myself pointing to a file that was 0 bytes in size...hence the null pointer in convert.c error.  The program should probably be fixed to account for this,..but since the work around is so easy, and a mistake on my part, I am changing this bug to won't fix.
