Stock stable gentoo apache2 init.d script "rc-update show | grep -i apache" shows that apache2 configured to run in default on reboot apache2 fails with "rc-scripts: Apache2 has detected a syntax error in your configuration files:" in /var/log/messages BUT NOTHING after the colon, so don't know how to debug But apache2 cranks up fine AFTER booting up with "/etc/init.d/apache2 start" So assume failing some dependency. I have custom compiled JK2 connector to hook over to Tomcat so have /etc/apache2/conf/workers2.properties Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.reboot 2.notice apache2 not running 3.run /etc/init.d/apache2 start Actual Results: apache2 is running after manual startup of /etc/init.d/apache2, but apache2 should have started fine during reboot or left a better message somewhere (I checked /var/log/apache2 files) as noted under details, I had to download and compile jk2 connector to hook over to Tomcat from apache and I wonder if that's throwing your stock apache2 init.d script ==== Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Portage 2.0.50-r9 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r0, 2.6.7-gentoo-r11) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+ Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r3 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /etc/tomcat /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://cudlug.cudenver.edu/gentoo/ ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/ http://adelie.polymtl.ca/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib acpi alsa apm arts avi berkdb bonobo cdr crypt cups curl directfb doc encode esd foomaticdb freetds gb gd gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imap imlib java jikes jpeg junit libg++ libwww mad maildir mikmod motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls odbc oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php plotutils png postgres ppds python qt quicktime readline ruby samba sasl scanner sdl slang soap spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype usb wavelan wxwindows x86 xml xml2 xmlrpc xmms xv zlib"

Hi, the problem is in script which does not log the problem during boot In my situation it is unavaiable ipv6 address (assigned later by ipv6 autoconfig). It is possible to trace (to logfile) also error from apache2 -t ? Thanks and best regards Jarek
you should let the apache init script depend on whatever init script sets up your IPv6 addresses.
