Updating to the latest intel graphics driver, whether in conjunction with xorg-server-1.17.4 or xorg-server-1.18.0, causes two severe (and probably closely connected) rendering bugs in kde-plasma/plasma-desktop-5.5.3: a) After login, the plasma loading screen with progress bar stays visible, no desktop background and plasma widgets outside the taskbar are rendered (but they are still functional all the same). b) Upon locking the screen, no lock screen is rendered, and the desktop contents at the moment of locking stay visible. Similar to a), the functionality is not affected by the rendering bug and logging in 'blindly' by just typing the password works. The relevant packages have the following USE flags: emerge -vp mesa qtgui qtwidgets xorg-server plasma-desktop xf86-video-intel kwin plasma These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Same here: plasma + intel + xorg-server 1.18 -> no background image, broken lockscreen
Various screen artifacts on kde4 desktop when plug second monitor with this version.
Version 2.99.917_p20160203 orks fine.
p20160203 still broken with plasma. i can now see the lock screen, but when i unlock it, the lockscreen doesn't go away / desktop is not rendered
Encountered issue-a on a broadwell machine with p20160122 and p20160203. No such problem on a sandy bridge machine nor a haswell one. Force downgrade to 2.99.917-r2 as a workaround for now.. (Not using the lock screen functionality so not sure about issue-b)
USE=dri3 with latest xf86-video-intel has solved that problem for me.
Same here, USE=dri3 did the trick. Thanks, guys!
2.99.917_p20160224 +dri3 has been working well - haven't noticed any problems
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.917_p20160313 with dri3 creates freezes for several seconds
Not seeing any freezing here with graphics with PCI ID 8086:1616 and xf86-video-intel-2.99.917_p20160313 (yet). Any pattern as to when freezing happens for you, Johannes?

Please give _p20160316 a try, it had seen a lot of patches.
(In reply to Manuel Rüger from comment #12) > Please give _p20160316 a try, it had seen a lot of patches. Same freezes as in _p20160313. _p20160224 worked fine.

Yes, see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94515 As workaround emerge -av1 =xorg-server-1.18.1 @x11-module-rebuild should work.
Oops sorry, please ignore my comment top, I use the wrong bug.
Do you still see this issue with x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.917_p20160403 and x11-base/xorg-server-1.18.3 ?

Thanks, marking as fixed.
