pinentry-tty is the barebone version that does not include all the boilerplate windowing that destroys the command line history you have going on. It should be avaible in eselect-pinentry. Setting up the pinentry -> pinentry-tty symlink works nicely.

This is reasonable and simple enough, adding to todo list.
