Okay, I need to apply an exact slot and subslot to the libgif dependency. When I last checked through the list, libgif didn't have any additional subslots and we're told to not guess how packages will use slots in the future.

This has been addressed in 7.2.6.4 but not in the way described. I don't want to pin unstable users back to giflib v4 so I built icedtea with --disable-system-gif to make it dlopen the library instead. When v5 goes stable, I'll fix it as above.
