I've created this bug with permission from Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org>, who is also willing to be my mentor. I don't seem to have permission to be able to submit this bug to "Gentoo Developers/Staff", perhaps it can be moved? Anyways, i have been working as a sysadmin at a fairly large local insurance agency for about five years now. In that time i have written quite a bit of specialized software for them and helped move them from a Solaris/Windows environment to a primarily open source environment. Currently the SPARC boxes we have are now running FreeBSD and the x86 boxes are running Gentoo. The entire infrastructure is now virtualized into containers and VM's and there are a few pieces of custom orchestration software that ensure the containers / VM's migrate to other hosts in the case of hardware failure. We run ZFS for all of the storage which is shared to each server and allows everything to run smoothly. My current goal is to get the Gentoo SPARC port updated and create profiles for a pure 64 bit port. This way we can replace FreeBSD with Gentoo which would help a lot in maintaining ZFS feature sets and container logic. We have quite a few newer Sun4V boxes that still run Solaris because of the lack of support in FreeBSD. LXC also presents a few nice features compared to FreeBSD Jails which only gives me more incentive to do this. Most of the work for this is done already, i have a pure 64 bit Gentoo port running now with new profiles and such. I just have to work out a few chicken / egg problems with multilib. I'm hoping to be able to contribute this work, and maintain regular stage3's and ISO's for sparc32 and sparc64. After that work is done i will probably go on to work on PPC, as i do have a few AIX boxes that aren't being used much.
I received alex's mail too. I'm glad to support if needed.

Name: Alex McWhirter Nick: F4S4K4N Mentor: Mike Frysinger / Vapier / SpanKY Areas of contributions: SPARC Tree access: Yes My only contributions are for SPARC at the moment, but like i said i will probably do some work on PPC as well as fix up a few multilib / crossdev.
(In reply to Justin Lecher from comment #3) the wiki page does not say to cc recruiters during the quiz process, only about sending them the completed one (In reply to Alex McWhirter from comment #4) don't worry about the "Areas of contributions" field. it's meant as an initial guideline and has no impact once you're a dev ... you're free to expand/move around as you like.
(In reply to SpanKY from comment #5) > (In reply to Justin Lecher from comment #3) > > the wiki page does not say to cc recruiters during the quiz process, only > about sending them the completed one > No, there is no need to involve us. Normally I don't see anything on the bug until the recruit has finished the quizzes and did sent them to us.
Still no quizzes. Reopen when you are ready.
The first quiz was submitted quite a while ago, i can post it here if necessary. The end quiz in nearly complete excluding a few questions which i had discrepancies with. I've reached out to my mentor a few times over the past few months regarding some questions, but i have not heard back. I am uncertain of what to do in that situation considering that i'm working on sparc64 which seems to have no active Gentoo developers at the moment.

Quizzes has to be checked by your mentor and then send to recruiters@gentoo.org. If your mentor is not responding you might have to consider asking someone else to mentor you.
