Description Ulenrich 2016-01-06 18:02:49 UTC
This is a fat dependency: media-fonts/noto
from Google all language support.
Please optionalize with having a USE flag

What will happen to KDE when the default font is missing?
Comment 2 Tomasz Golinski 2016-04-22 15:33:28 UTC
Or alternatively just provide USE flags to media-fonts/noto to disable all or some of exotic languages. I very rarely use nordic runes in my daily work ;)

The problem with this is the giant tarball still needs to be fetched - we'd have to split it locally downstream.
Comment 4 Tomasz Golinski 2016-04-22 17:20:40 UTC
It would still be a gain. Fetched file can be cleaned up afterwards, but keeping about 0.5GB of unnecessary fonts is a quite burden e.g. for people with small SSD for system. It is twice the size of whole libreoffice package.
Comment 5 Johannes Huber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2016-04-23 18:57:48 UTC
Upstream confirmed that at least noto sans is required. But we could try to create a way more smaller package.
Comment 6 Michael Palimaka (kensington) gentoo-dev 2016-05-05 16:47:27 UTC
A cjk USE flag was introduced in bug #581344 which, when disabled, uses a repacked tarball that is substantially smaller.
