https://github.com/ilya84/mate-overlay.git Based on layman`s overlay "gentoo-mate-112". I rewrote ebuilds for mate (1.12.1+), solved build problems on enabled use flag 'gtk3'. Additional fixed another build bugs on x86&amd64 arch`s (caja-dropbox fail build, etc). Actively tracking development of MATE (not being a member of a development team, just the interest person), and intend to continue refine overlay
Have you tried contacting the owner of the original overlay? Maybe you could work together on one overlay. This would be already third Gentoo overlay on mate, and having to guess which one to use is not the best thing we could offer to our users. That said, I can add the overlay if you really like me to. Just let me know what you think.

Also i know of existance of this project: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:MATE But I could not connect with any of participants of that projects. Perhaps due to the fact that I'm waiting too fast response, maybe because I'm trying to contact only on IRC. But such contacts are indicated in README.md :( Not only these, but it is useful only to IRC, I prefer to avoid e-mail
