Description Christof Neal Harper 2002-07-28 16:06:19 UTC
The gentoo system does a wonderful job of finding and loading my PCI based scsi
interface cards- however, it fails to load modules for the devices (sd_mod and
sr_mod) after detection of the drives.

I can see where, if you have to manually load the scsi driver, that may be a
necessity (though it should be documented), but for autodetected cards, it
should (IMHO) sork as easily as IDE does.

For documentation purposes as the system stands now, a reference to *why* one
would be loading certain scsi modules may help newer users or people who have
not done a "scratch" install before.

thanks!

I still think that these modules should be loaded by hand personally to prevent
unwanted things from happening.. maybe we have to document it more clearly? I
know I had troubles the first time I tried to get my scsi stuffs running in
install environment as well...I think the docs may have already been updated
accordingly... anyone know for sure?

The latest experimental livecds at http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd
have these guys built into the kernel. Closing this bug.
