Description Harris Landgarten 2015-12-21 14:45:51 UTC
Firstly, it will not build unless CXXFLAGS+=' -std=c++11' but even after building it has issues with string handling.

Attempts to connect from save entries or from command line parameters are unsuccessful, failing with Hostname not found errors.

The issue is that string handling is mangling the hostname and password fields. The mangling seems to be sensitive to the size of the text entry.

Looking at the source, the culprit seems to be in

GLIB::ustring being saved as c_str() through a toCString macro.

Connections can be made through the quickconnect feature by filling in the fields. Connections made in this way are working normally.

However the last_connection field that should populate the quickconnect dialog after a successful connection are also mangled after disconnect.

patch to fix string processing with gcc-5.3

I found this patch on Ubuntu. I can confirm it fixes the string processing breakage when compiled with gcc-5.3

Before we add the patch to the tree, please give us the standard rundown. You know, build log, emerge --info etc.
Comment 4 Harris Landgarten 2016-01-14 00:17:42 UTC
I do not have a working ebuild. I applied the patch to build directory after interrupting it before compile.

The current ebuild in the tree will not compile with gcc-5.3. I am adding CXXFLAGS+=' -std=c++11 -Wno-narrowing' using bashrc in paludis. There is only a build log up to my abort which is not too useful.

I have been running the patched mangler for the last few days with no issues.

In my use case I am in listen only mode but the bug concerned connecting to
servers and I have done that dozens of times.

If you can put together a new ebuild I would be happy to test it.

Harris, I cannot reproduce the bug. Hence, please do upload a build.log, even if its just for me to see the active USE flags. In addition, please give a link to the Ubuntu bug, or where you found the patch.

This is the url of the ubuntu bug. The patch is towards the end of the thread.

You will also see there how to reproduce the bug.
