Does this work with 3.0.6?
Comment 2 Gabor Kovari 2015-12-19 10:11:08 UTC
They are all broken in 3.0.6 as well.
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2015-12-24 13:35:33 UTC
OK, the problem of all stardict stuff is that is completely orphan (lack a maintainer) for a long time, then, I am unsure about how to solve this :(
Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2016-11-10 12:45:50 UTC
Probably we should treeclean it simply
Comment 5 Matthew Schultz 2016-11-29 14:02:26 UTC
I don't think this should be removed if some feature is malfunctioning. If that was a reason for removing and ebuild, you'd remove quite a bit of software from the tree. In addition, your hypothesis is wrong in that stardict has not been maintained for years (last commit May 26, 2016): https://github.com/huzheng001/stardict-3/commits/master

Kindly remove this package from package.mask and actually try to communicate with the upstream developer(s).

+1

The only normal one dictionary with text recognition, lighting, voice, which works for many years should not be removed from the tree. My heard stopped for a moment when I saw it in package.mask.

Who is going to do that job of maintaining it here? Is anyone willing to proxy maintain it?

Patches are welcome :)

This problem is known to upstream and is better to be discussed there. I posted my findings at issue 41. tl;dr: https implementation for stardict is required, likely some library should be used.

There is nothing Gentoo-specific in this bug.
