Created attachment 419080 [details] emerge --info, eix -C x11-drivers -I, lspci When I start guvcview, then on the first run I get only black screen instead of video from camera. On the second run the X server crashes and leaves in /var/log/Xorg.log following message [ 5267.793] (EE) [ 5267.793] (EE) Backtrace: [ 5267.824] (EE) 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x48) [0x580088] [ 5267.824] (EE) 1: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x1841a9) [0x5841a9] [ 5267.824] (EE) 2: /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x7f04dcb20000+0x33240) [0x7f04dcb53240] [ 5267.824] (EE) 3: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x8b691) [0x48b691] [ 5267.824] (EE) 4: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x8c54b) [0x48c54b] [ 5267.824] (EE) 5: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0xd26d0) [0x4d26d0] [ 5267.824] (EE) 6: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x36e6e) [0x436e6e] [ 5267.824] (EE) 7: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x3ac5b) [0x43ac5b] [ 5267.824] (EE) 8: /lib64/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xf5) [0x7f04dcb40865] [ 5267.824] (EE) 9: /usr/bin/X (_start+0x29) [0x426359] [ 5267.824] (EE) [ 5267.824] (EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x20 [ 5267.824] (EE) Fatal server error: [ 5267.824] (EE) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Interestingly, the Cheese application works with the same camera without any problem. The problem appeared after update of xorg-server to version 1.17.4.
I suspect there is a driver bug when using Xv or similar. Try reproducing the problem with media-video/mpv and different video outputs.
Actually, I've already hit the same problem with OpenShot (it crashes xorg on the start) and with mplayer when tried to play .mts video.
ati-drivers is dead, and will not be supported for X.
