According to the wayback machine this seems to be the case since at least 2011. The package is maintainer-needed. I don't see any reverse dependencies (using github search...). Treeclean? Reproducible: Always
Actually there is https://github.com/vbouchaud/gsmlib However the latest commit seems to indicate that it is now also dead.
Thank you for the report. If the package still works fine it does not need to be cleaned.[1] But the URL can be updated, if there is a new one, or set to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/No_homepage, if there is no homepage. I assign the bug to treecleaners, who attempt to fix simple bugs of packages without maintainer [1] [1] https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Treecleaner/Policy
well, since nothings needs this old lib, I would treeclean it. Maybe in the future, if something starts to need this, a snapshot of that fork :/
Let me also say that the motivation for this bug was that the package does not build with musl: http://bluedragon-tinderbox.freeharbor.net/app-mobilephone/gsmlib-1.11_pre041028/temp/build.log Citing from there: make[2]: Entering directory '/var/tmp/portage/app-mobilephone/gsmlib-1.11_pre041028/work/gsmlib-1.11/intl' Makefile:206: *** missing separator. Stop.
Package name contain "lib" but it have useful binaries. Is there alternate for this ? /usr/bin/gsmctl /usr/bin/gsmsendsms /usr/bin/gsmsiexfer /usr/bin/gsmpb /usr/bin/gsmsmsd /usr/bin/gsmsiectl /usr/bin/gsmsmsstore I am using "gsmctl" (GSM mobile phone control program) from time to time when I need to access / clean SMS store on GSM modem. thx Lukas
It seems that there is a fork https://github.com/vbouchaud/gsmlib which is used by Debian. Still, this package needs a maintainer. Lukas, since you are actually using this package, could you see whether it is possible for you to become a proxied maintainer? See https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Proxy_Maintainers
I'll check fork on github but for now I don't want to make any promise. In short: we are doing HW refresh / server infrastructure re-design and for now it looks like we will use different Linux distribution :o( It will be not easy for me to contribute without this infrastructure ...
