configure: error: LLVM is required to build Gallium R300 on x86 and x86_64

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Anthony Basile gentoo-dev 2015-12-09 14:24:55 UTC
I'm not sure what's going on here because I installed clang/llvm manually and still got

configure: error: LLVM is required to build Gallium R300 on x86 and x86_64

The only way I could get this to work is by USE=-gallium. I'm not sure what's going on in the configure.ac that's casing the test for llvm to fail.
Comment 2 William T Wilson 2015-12-11 22:14:48 UTC
I had the same problem, but adding llvm to the mesa use flags worked for me. I did not have to do -gallium.

It maybe be because I'm on a hardened system, but I'm not sure. I'm didn't dive into the build system to see how detection was working. llvm may be failing because of some hardened features.

Nonetheless, the USE flag dependency should be correct. If USE=gallium then pull in llvm. That's not there now.
Comment 4 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2015-12-19 04:06:02 UTC
Ah, VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" implies VIDEO_CARDS="r300" and r300 requires LLVM, but video_cards_radeon is missing that dependency.

I've fixed this in mesa >= 11.0.6.

    media-libs/mesa: Require llvm if using radeon+gallium.
