The gentoo-mate-112 overlay defined in repositories.xml causes cave to quit with an error: Name 'gentoo-mate-112' is not a valid package name part (paludis::PackageNamePartError) Specifically, PMS says: 3.1.5 Repository Names A repository name may contain any of the characters [A-Za-z0-9_-]. It must not begin with a hyphen. In addition, every repository name must also be a valid package name. "gentoo-mate-112" is not a valid package name, since it includes a version component. It's possible to work around the issue by deleting /var/db/paludis/repositories/layman/gentoo-mate-112.repository, presuming you're not interested installing packages from this specific overlay. Reproducible: Always
A simple fix would be to rename the repository to "gentoo-mate_112".

This is fixed by the overlay maintainer. See: https://github.com/oz123/mate-de-gentoo/commit/8f949d8797ffb25c931d1840ca8ee97a4e4d164b
