Description ben 2004-07-11 09:32:10 UTC
I run "/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemons &" from .xinitrc so that I'll get pretty fonts & whatnot. However, recently (the only thing I can think of is that I emerged new versions of gaim and xmms, which emerged a new gnome component (can't remember what, though), gnome-settings-daemon doesn't change the settings for a good 20 minutes to half an hour. Also, control-center's window doesn't come up for about 5-10 minutes, after which it takes a very long time for it to launch the programs controlling fonts, colors etc.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge newfangled gnome component
2. startx
3. Wait forever

Actual Results:
Not caused the gnome applications to use the selected fonts & resolutions, etc.

Expected Results:
Caused the gnome applications to use the selected fonts etc.

What is your hostname, and is it present in /etc/hosts ? This could be a name resolution issue.
