it emerges just fine and kde apps use it when compiling.
I tried compiling kdelibs & koffice and it worked as I expected from what I read about it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.add keyword to ebuild/emerge unsermake
2.export UNSERMAKE=/usr/kde/unsermake/unsermake
3.emerge kde{libs,base,addons,...}
4.compare compile times
