=net-p2p/amule-2.3.1-r1, which is build against wxGTK:3.0 exhibits memory leaks and very quick RAM saturation and CPU hog. Downgrade to 2.3.1 (wxGTK:2.8) makes it behave normally. A similar problem reported on Arch Linux bugtracker aswell. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/38529 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge net-p2p/amule-2.3.1-r1 2. notice a quick resources exhaustion within 5 minutes 3. emerge =net-p2p/amule-2.3.1 4. notice a normal behavior

Bug 465084 revisited I guess. Not sure if you should reopen that or continue here.
up-to net-p2p herd to decide. My take is that amule/wxGTK:3.0 support is incomplete and 2.3.1-r1 need a mask.
wxGTK:3.0 support has been removed as a result of resolving merge conflicts :) https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/net-p2p/amule?id=1c48f49cea102f0d494f7d2f25c653317cf5c657
please try with 2.3.2
