Description Juergen Rose 2015-11-04 11:54:29 UTC
At the end of the output from 'emerge @preserved-rebuild', which reemerges thunderbird-38.3.0, I see:

...
>>> Installing (1 of 1) mail-client/thunderbird-38.3.0::gentoo
 *
 * If you experience problems with plugins please issue the
 * following command : rm ${HOME}/.thunderbird/*/extensions.sqlite ,
 * then restart thunderbird
 *
 * If calendar fails to show up in extensions please open config editor
 * and set extensions.lastAppVersion to 38.0.0 to force a reload. If this
 * fails to show the calendar extension after restarting with above change
 * please file a bug report.
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: www-client/seamonkey-2.38
 *  - /usr/lib64/seamonkey/libmozalloc.so
 *      used by /usr/lib64/thunderbird/components/libdbusservice.so (mail-client/thunderbird-38.3.0)
 *      used by /usr/lib64/thunderbird/components/libmozgnome.so (mail-client/thunderbird-38.3.0)
 *      used by /usr/lib64/thunderbird/distribution/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/components/libcalbasecomps.so (mail-client/thunderbird-38.3.0)
 * used by 2 other files
Use emerge @preserved-rebuild to rebuild packages using these libraries
root@lynx2:/usr/local/portage/media-libs(66)

So the next 'emerge @preserved-rebuild' will emerge thunderbird again.

So you have seamonkey installed and thunderbird linked to it? Have you done anything out of the ordinary to cause thunderbird to link to seamonkey's libmozalloc.so as I have never seen such behavior.

I see this issue only at one system. I am not aware, that I did something special with thunderbird at this system.

At the other systems, where seamonkey and thunderbird is installed as well, thunderbird-38.3.0 was installed once at Oct 1st, and there is no need for reemerging.

we not use rpath to ensure the libs are properly found in 38.4.0 so this issue is no longer. Thanks for reporting, if you are stilling having troubles after upgrade please let us know.
