Thunderbird won't start on my system (an AMD Athlon). I've tried the 0.5, 0.6-r2 and 0.7.1. I've even tried the thunderbird-bin. Trying to run thunderbird yielded the following message before it died: bash-2.05b$ thunderbird no running windows found *** Global extensions loaded! bash-2.05b$ When running thunderbird-bin, I get a different error: bash-2.05b$ thunderbird fgrep: /usr/lib/MozillaThunderbird/defaults/pref/thunderbird.js: No such file or directory No running windows found bash-2.05b$ If I call it from kde, it loads for a bit and then plumb dies. Firefox, on the other hand, works fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge thunderbird 2.run thunderbird 3.weep in frustration Actual Results: See details. I noticed this as well. It has to do when you are upgrading, and you already have a ~/.thunderbird folder created. If you delete it and start from scratch, all will work fine. I believe if you delete ~/.thunderbird/default.xxx/compreg.dat All will work.. but I think that is the main options file. Not sure what the cause is.
This fix works for me. Thanks, James! This seems like a problem with Thunderbird, not Gentoo, so changed bug to upstream.
The problem occured again after update to version 1.0 (20050308) Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r0, 2.6.10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.10 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.9 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, Feb 26 2005, 18:26:29)] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.5, 1.8.5-r3, 1.7.9-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r5 virtual/os-headers: 2.4.22-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -Os -mmmx -m3dnow -msse" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -Os -mmmx -m3dnow -msse" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.ynet.sk/pub/ ftp://vlaai.snt.ipv6.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/ http://ftp6.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.ipv6.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="pl" LC_ALL="pl_PL" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowex X aalib alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl directfb emboss encode f77 fam flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmodmmx mmx2 motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline sdl spell sse ssl svga tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts xml2 xmms xv zlib linguas_pl" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY deleting compreg.dat works for me, too
