I am wondering for a long time if we should simply be treated as other "Applications" and, then, the bugs being handled normally by bug-wranglers.

Currently, some people wrongly assign "GNOME" component because they think the app is "gnome related", while that not being always the case or it being maintainer by people not related with gnome herds at all (like shotwell for example)

Also, currently as soon as people select that component, the bug goes directly to us without needing to be triaged by bug-wranglers and, then, in some cases the bugs are not proper and don't contain the needed information.

I would simply opt for dropping that component to prevent users from wrongly using it and simply work as done for normal apps -> using "Applications", setting summary properly and bugs being assigned as normal to the proper maintainers

What do you think?

I like the GNOME component.

I would much rather occasionally triage some things or reassign to freedesktop/xfce/whoever than always wait 5 days for bug wranglers to assign a relevant and important bug to us. Especially when the issue is obvious and there is no reason to ask for logs etc., but bug wranglers don't know that (because the are not familiar with the recent changes to the package) and follow the default pattern.

In fact, I wish bugzilla automatically selected the GNOME component if the bug summary contains a package name in our herd :)

in that case, ok :/
