Description Daniel Robbins 2015-10-21 14:54:11 UTC
As in the description, RHEL6 and OpenVZ RHEL6 kernels require this version of eudev, which was recently removed from the tree. Please add it back, and when you do, it would be great if you could fix the KEYWORDS so it's not just stable on alpha.

Reproducible: Always

We're doing some testing over in Funtoo land and it looks like the RHEL6 kernels contain enough backported stuff to work with newer eudevs. Still testing but looks promising. So this may not be needed.

I can put it back on the tree. Would that help?

For now, I have a forked version of just that ebuild, so it is not necessary, and is probably extra work on your part. And it looks like everything is working with eudev-3.1.5. The one thing we have not tested yet is firmware loading.

A discussion in freenode's #gentoo-udev yesterday between myself and angry_vincent confirmed through code inspection that openvz-2.6.36.108.* actually contains all of the patches backported from newer kernels that all eudev versions should work fine with it. We're still awaiting runtime confirmation, though.

Also, the warning on the kernel version will likely stay in place with an added provisio that it can be ignored for openvz-sources. But that's not going to be put into place until after we get runtime confirmation.

..and i just re-read this bug to find out that my comments are entirely redundant. oh well. :)

Ping -- what is it we need to do to close this bug? Just test firmware-loading on a system that has a modern openvz-sources kernel?

if they can get the firmware loading workgin with openvz then this bug can be closed. its a funtoo thing but we do want to support it here.

there is openvz-sources in gentoo portage tree, that exactly same package. funtoo ebuild has different logic but it's still same upstream package. so not specific problem. anyway, 3.1.5 is working good and this can be closed.
