Description Alex Barker 2015-10-14 04:08:24 UTC
Despite having pidgin-indicator sni-qt libappindicator:3 and :2 installed and "activating the legacy-systray and GUI-specific (gtk2, gtk3, qt4) USE flags for kde-plasma/plasma-desktop," most applications still don't have a tray icon. Most notably qbittorrent and pidgin.

Reproducible: Always

Please don't mark stable.

qbittorrent is handled by sni-qt. Could you please add the output of 'emerge -pv sni-qt', 'qlist sni-qt', and check if there's a directory in /tmp like "sni-qt_qbittorrent_xxxxx_yyyyyy" when qbittorrent is running?
Comment 2 Alex Barker 2015-10-14 14:54:51 UTC
I just went back and reviewed and it does show up under the status and notification submenu. The icon is just white, which makes it almost impossible to see on the off white background.

Can you attach a screenshot please?

The pidgin icon shows up down at the bottom in that empty space, but you cant click it to display the window.

Just an update, this still does not work. Kwallet does not have a tray icon making it impossible to manage. I am also having a hard time comprehending that plasma 5 is being slated for stable release.

I suspect you are suffering a different issue. qbittorrent is handled by sni-qt which tests OK. The optional kwalletmanager tray icon doesn't use the legacy methods at all.
Comment 7 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2016-03-13 11:06:32 UTC
The systray situation should be solved by Plasma-5.5.5, or do you still have problems?
Comment 8 Alex Barker 2016-03-18 06:42:54 UTC
I am still seeing two icons for pidgin. Only one of the icons works to click. Now that I check, the left click problem has been solved. I switched off the default theme to something darker and that worked around the white icon problem with qBittorrent. qBittorrent does still only display in the status & notification tray instead of the icon tray, although I don't know if that was intentional. I was using the normal tray with KDE 4.

Which USE flags are kde-frameworks/knotifications and kde-plasma/plasma-workspace built with?
Comment 11 Michael Palimaka (kensington) gentoo-dev 2016-07-27 14:49:22 UTC
Please reopen if you are still having issues. There have been a lot of upstream fixes in 5.6 which is now stable, and we also made some downstream packaging improvements.
