Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2015-10-03 10:16:09 UTC
It is needed for latest graphviz:
   media-gfx/graphviz/graphviz-2.38.0-r1.ebuild: DEPEND: arm(default/linux/arm/13.0)
['>=virtual/jdk-1.5', '>=dev-java/java-config-2.2.0']

Other option would be to rely on use.stable.mask :/

Thanks

I must admit that there's no solid reason why we haven't allowed Java on arm to go stable yet. It really comes down to not wanting to burden ourselves further as stabilization can be a real pain at times. I do have arm hardware so I do care about this arch though I don't intend to run stable on it. I would be willing to revisit this when we get virtual/jdk:1.8 stable for the other arches. That is high on the agenda right now.

Well, this is a bit urgent as current stable graphviz version has multiple unresolved bugs (some even security related), then, maybe we could CC arm team with the list of concrete versions you think are ok to be stabilized (I guess, the same as amd64/x86) or, if you prefer, I can use.stable.mask the relevant flags and go ahead

What do you prefer?
Thanks

I was implying you should use use.stable.mask for now though I suppose there wouldn't be much harm in just marking these stable. It just sets a precedent that I hadn't intended to cross quite yet.

virtual/jdk-1.7.0
virtual/jre-1.7.0
dev-java/icedtea-bin-7.2.6.1

For what it's worth, the new HotSpot port on ARM seems pretty good. As for icedtea, I've only found one package that hung during the built when it worked fine under Oracle's. Oracle only provides Java 8 now though.

[master 5cbea7f] arch/arm/package.use.stable.mask: mask java USE for graphviz (#529462)

Sorry, I didn't understand your comment :S

I have just use masked it and, then, there is no hurry anymore on fixing this
