Hello

My father is suffering crashes on the x86 systems he has. I attach the backtrace and this is the emerge --info output. It fails even on safe mode

This seems to be caused by gcc-4.8.5 update, as described at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1471949

Downgrading back to 4.8.4 and rebuilding Firefox with it makes it launch successfully again.
Comment 2 Ian Stakenvicius (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2015-10-02 14:57:37 UTC
CFLAGS="-ggdb" might not be helping things here, either.. I don't have an x86 image to test at the moment (might by the weekend) but I was rather surprised on the number of extra signals firefox throws up when emerged with -g in CFLAGS. At least two occur on firefox startup.
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2015-10-03 10:45:00 UTC
I can ask him to recompile without -ggdb to get a newer backtrace... but he will probably also test with the newly stabilized gcc-4.9 and maybe it fixes the problem too :/

Well the bug in that ubuntu URL is actually something that was preset after gcc-4.8.2 and was apparently fixed upstream in both gcc-4.8.5 and gcc-4.9.3 (unless I misread), so I don't think switching to 4.9 is going to make any difference here unfortunately.
Comment 5 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2015-10-03 15:36:29 UTC
This is actually caused by cairo being built with xcb support. Disable and test again.

And how this is related to builds with -system-cairo, which segfault too just after start or after trying to open new tab / restore previous tabs after crass?

As stated in comment there ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1471949/comments/9 ) there's a bug somewhere in ubuntu patches after 4.8.2, and there's (another?) bug in upstream gcc 4.8.5, which was fixed in git sometime after that release.
Comment 7 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2015-10-05 10:57:11 UTC
I have just got the confirmation that the two x86 machines affected are now fixed when compiling with gcc-4.9.3 :D

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up! Just adding the gcc note to the subject line.
