geeks all over boot, down into startup deamons with rc script errors and caps off every ebuild. i'd say there difficulty finding commands. i recompiled python without that pymalloc after testing stack protectors on bash and it quit squigging the md5s which is good but there remains an obtuse script that there doesn't seem to be an ebuild for. useing same gcc333 gentoo-267r8 233-20040420 no Problem was fixed when I unset the PROTECT_CONFIG env variable and emerged baselayout 1.10-r2 at least this is what i suspect fixed it i also did some houskeeping in the /etc/env.d dir and kept running: env-update; ldconfig; source /etc/profile; env until everything looked right. From the time i knew it was broken to the time i knew it was fix ive emerged baselayout java-config blackdown-jre db unixODBC (~x86) and unmerged some masked obdc lib that had been installed, so it could have been one of those also .
Looks like it was uncommented text in /etc/rc.conf, to be more specific.
This should have ben fixed by now - re-open if you disagree
