hi there, 

I do have a binary here that is in need of exactly three .so files from boost-1.58.0 or higher. Unmasking them for the whole system is not a good idea oviously. 

So, would it be a big deal to hack an ebuild which would install these three libraries and strip the rest, keeping the boost-system at stable? Something of a solution as there is for openssl-0.9.8 or libpng 1.2.x 

anyone understands me? :)

those are there for old packages *only*. if you want to do it for your own programs, you can emerge the new version and copy the files into an LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
