Description Ridai Govinda 2004-07-04 04:03:20 UTC
net-misc/nforce-net-1.0.261-r2 merges normally following the /usr/src/linux symlink. But when I try to boot the system my NIC doesn't work. Normally it works via DHCP, but dhcpcd tries for some minutes and can't get some IP, under gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1 it works... I've tried fixing my IP configuration at /etc/conf.d/net and /etc/init.d/net.eth0 starts, but I can't reach any network, it's as my NIC is dead... Looking at kernel messages, there's one thing different, that I think that matters:

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge any kind of gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7 ebuild
2.genkernel it
3.emerge nforce-net
4.reboot and use this kernel

Actual Results:
NIC doesn't work, probably because of that IRQ dump...

Expected Results:
NIC should work, as it worked under gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5

I have an A78NX - Deluxe MB

Have you tried using forcedeth?
Comment 2 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-12 06:11:04 UTC
nforce-net probably needs to be updated...
Comment 3 Ridai Govinda 2004-07-12 16:58:50 UTC
Sorry, I don't know what's forcedeth.. some kernel option?
Comment 4 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-13 09:58:45 UTC
Yes, it's a driver in the main kernel tree for your device.

Please try that instead, as it now is being supported by developers from
nvidia.
Comment 5 Ridai Govinda 2004-07-14 04:50:47 UTC
Tried it... No hope :-(. Same behavior, I think the real problem is that irq 5: nobody cared issue :-(. (Tried this with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r10)

Still using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1...
Comment 6 Aaron Bohannon 2004-07-19 09:23:57 UTC
I can confirm the same behavior using forcedeth with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11 on my machine. I did not check my logs for this output when I was having the problem, but the effects were exactly the same--no way to make a network connection, dhcp would timeout.
Comment 7 Ridai Govinda 2004-07-24 06:30:26 UTC
Good to know there's someone else with this issue, 'cause I've loosed hope
Comment 8 Edward Flick 2004-07-24 14:32:56 UTC
I'm having the same problem with forcedeth and the latest 2.6.7 gentoo-dev-kernel. I have been waiting forever for this to be resolved, I'm still stuck in 2.6.5. Any help?
Comment 9 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-26 07:44:54 UTC
Has the issue been resolved in 2.6.8? If not, you need to file a bug at http://bugzilla.kernel.org - this is an upstream kernel bug. You may also wish to play with ACPI/APIC kernel options incase these make a difference.
Comment 10 Ridai Govinda 2004-08-26 20:11:26 UTC
Yeap, issue solved with 2.6.8, thanks!
