Gentoo portage is getting bigger and bigger, and starts to eat a lot of time to update it. Since all the files are text I think that if would possible to add compression like gzip to the transmission we will get a lot of time saving.
What you developers think about this?

'emerge sync' already utilizes the --compress option of rsync when performing a sync.
