Description Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-01 14:18:30 UTC
Armando has been most recently mentioned in GWN for his massive contributions to gnustep in gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20040628-newsletter.xml). Right now, raker is the only member of the gnustep herd, and he's been absent for the past few weeks. I've reviewed about half of Armando's submissions and find absolutely no glaring mistakes, but I have yet to commit them as there are some enhancements that I think can still be made to his eclass submission. He's expressed interest in joining -dev to maintain gnustep, and I will be mentoring him through this process.

Name: Armando Di Ciann
Herd: gnustep
Mentor: eradicator

Just to be exact:
- missed an "o" in my name: Armando Di Cianno
- preferred handle: fafhrd (I changed it temporarily 'cause the handle was in limbo on freenode ... all is good now)
Comment 4 Deedra Waters (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-12 11:36:47 UTC
jeremy, do you want this one, or want me to take him?
Comment 5 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-12 12:48:11 UTC
I've got this one. Thanks.
Comment 6 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-13 23:39:22 UTC
Deedra: Actually, I missed him tonight, so I didn't get to review his quiz, and since I'm leaving Wed-Sun, I won't be able to take care of him for a while. Can you please take it?

Thanks

Changing bug titles to comply with new developer bug title conformance standards, sorry for the spam.
Comment 13 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-28 14:33:38 UTC
Last commit on Apr 17, according to http://cia.navi.cx/stats/author/fafhrd

Sorry, but about 5 comments on stale bugs during last 6 months can hardly count as developer activity. Please, retire.
Comment 14 Bryan Østergaard (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-07 09:07:08 UTC
Infra: please retire fafhrd.

All done.
Comment 18 Armando Di Cianno 2006-01-10 21:58:51 UTC
This is/was fafhrd.

For what it's worth, I wanted to pass along a note to infra, and the community, just to say thanks for the time I was an active dev.

The last 6 months (and continuing) of my life have been incredibly busy, with a new startup that actually got major funding. Sadly, it does not involve GNUstep, which was the area of ebuilds I was working on in Gentoo. I should've retired good and proper, rather than fall into nothingness.

Of course I'm still using Gentoo, and all the dev boxen at my new business run Gentoo (well, 'cept the Win32 test machine). Again, just wanted to take a minute, and at least close off my dev-ship on a better note than simply drifting off.

Thanks again.
Comment 19 Bryan Østergaard (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-12 12:31:41 UTC
Armando, thanks for your earlier work on GNUstep and good luck with the business :)
Comment 20 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2007-04-10 19:28:32 UTC
(Please tell me if I'd better opened up a new bug for this)

Reopening this bug as Armando is about to become a dev again.

Armando is busy for a few months now on the Gentoo/Alt:Prefix project, working on porting ebuilds into the prefix tree, using his own overlay. He likes to rejoin again to be able to add his ebuilds to the official prefix overlay.

fafhrd is primarily mentored by me (grobian), with genstef as second, in case I happen to fall off the earth in some way or another. He will (solely) work on Gentoo/Alt:Prefix initially, of which I am the project lead.

Next to the ebuild quiz, I want Armando to come up with some reasonable answers for the Gentoo/Alt:Prefix quiz. (http://dev.gentoo.org/~grobian/prefix-quiz)

You were correct in reopening the old one. One bug per developer is the policy.

If he needs gentoo-x86 access he should submit ebuild quiz + eom quiz.

Setting a deadline

Just to remind you that the deadline is coming in four days.
Comment 24 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2007-06-12 13:24:38 UTC
Armando, what happened? I haven't heard anything lately. Can you still make it? Do you need help?
Comment 25 Armando Di Cianno 2007-06-12 16:01:33 UTC
Fabian -- yes -- I'm wrapping up the EOM quiz right this second, and I'd like to go over revisions with you, ideally on IRC.

Just for the record, I do plan on getting the EOM quiz in tomorrow 6/13 -- hopefully this date is inclusive?
Comment 26 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2007-06-12 16:14:42 UTC
I have a fever and it's getting worse. I'll try and cook something, and see how I feel afterwards. I'm nearly collapsing at the moment, so if you can catch genstef, don't wait a single second.

The deadline is controlled by me and I usually give more time as long as people are active. We are not able to get this bug fixed before the deadline so giving it a week more.
Comment 28 Armando Di Cianno 2007-06-19 20:56:34 UTC
Note: the EOM quiz has been mailed to recruiters@gentoo.org .

Received. Sorry about the delay in responding.

So you need to ebuild quiz too. Please ping me on IRC to get the EOM quiz reviewed and I have some extra questions to ask too.

Comment 30 Armando Di Cianno 2007-06-28 15:27:47 UTC
Note: first dev quiz sent to Petteri Raty, again.

I'll ping him on IRC soon.
Comment 31 Armando Di Cianno 2007-07-30 19:49:28 UTC
I would appreciate knowing what else I need to do to finish this up -- Betelguese and I went over the dev-quiz a couple weeks ago, and that's as far as I've gotten.

I'm available most days 10:30-6PM EST (and then 8-11PM) on freenode, if that helps at all. I'm also available via jabber at armando -at- dicianno -dot- org most of the time.

Thanks!

From what I remember both quizzes haven't been reviewed with me in IRC so you need to contact me either via IRC or via mail to schedule a review session like I said in comment 29.

We had a couple of review times scheduled but fafhrd did not show up for either one so now waiting for new times that would fit him.
Comment 34 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2007-08-09 09:41:48 UTC
Is there anything that I can do to help negotiations or arrange time slots? "Not showing up" sounds like a very bad way of cancelling an appointment to me.

I suggested to Armando that he would send me a list of times that would suit him and then I would pick one that suits me too.
Comment 36 Armando Di Cianno 2007-08-09 13:20:03 UTC
Just two points,
 * I'm clearly often busy at work (which is where I develop Gentoo stuff anyway!)
 * I had surgery this week

Sorry, but I don't have dev-away yet (obviously). When I do, saying "getting surgery, see you in a few days" will be easier to handle.

I will try to get in touch with betelguese today or friday -- it's my first day back to work, so today might not be the best day.

When I get to work, I'll see my todo list for the day, and get back to you. ttys.
Comment 37 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-19 15:07:21 UTC
Sorry about not checking up on this bug sooner but if you are still around please comment so on this bug and let's reopen. CANTFIX for now as haven't heard from fafhrd in months.
Comment 38 Armando Di Cianno 2008-01-20 04:35:48 UTC
Not a problem -- my involvement with prefix portage has lessened over the last few months.

Gentoo is still in my blood, of course. Until next time ...
