I have a amd64 Gentoo with only needed 32bit libs enabled (package.use). After the official Steam-Client-Update from 21st July, Steam starts with a blank page and doesn't show its main content, "cannot open shared object file libXss.so". So I had to emerge x11-libs/libXScrnSaver with abi_x86_32 support (32bit). So I think it should depend on it to proper run. Another Gtk message I resolved, but it wasn't a blocker for me, "Gtk-Message: Failed to load module 'canberra-gtk-module'". So I emerged media-libs/libcanberra with abi_x86_32 support, too. A third thing for me, is game related (games-util/steam-games-meta, I assume). Crusader Kings II doesn't launch without emerging dev-libs/openssl USE="abi_x86_32". It searches for libssl.so.
