Description Michelangelo Scopelliti 2015-07-24 07:14:03 UTC
udevil ebuild hardcodes "--enable-systemd".
IgnoratGuru's Blog (https://igurublog.wordpress.com) was - at least for me - one of the best sources for posts against systemd.
I like the irony, but I think that systemd should be conditional and in IUSE.

Reproducible: Always

`--enable-systemd` is needed to support the systemd units, which per Gentoo policy we are supposed to ship by default (alongside any other contributed init system files such as openrc). The flag only installs the configuration files needed to integrate with systemd. [1] I understand your concerns (as a fellow anti-systemd user), but this flag is harmless.

If you're concerned about the existence of the files (again, I understand and am the same way), please use INSTALL_MASK. Based on what I see in your `emerge --info`, you're already not installing systemd files. Your system should be okay. If there are any other concerns you have about this, please respond and include them.

Thank you for your answer.

Apparently, udevil installs service files in /usr/lib64/systemd instead of /usr/lib/systemd, bypassing my INSTALL_MASK (I'll extend that, of course).

If the standard policy is to install systemd files, shouldn't this bug be closed?

Ah, thanks for catching that. My mistake.

Yes, this bug should be closed, but I try not to be hasty in closing bugs, just in case a user brings something up that I didn't think of. That said, I think I'll close the bug now. Thanks for being understanding and using the tools available to make your use case work out. :)
