Description Marek Szuba archtester gentoo-dev 2015-07-13 12:19:58 UTC
Hello,

My system, like quite a few others out there I presume, has got virtual/eject installed. Dependencies of this virtual ebuild have for a long time been met by sys-apps/util-linux (currently in version 2.25.2-r2), which has contained eject since version 2.22 and indeed blocks sys-block/eject. However, since a few days ago - Friday I believe - trying to run a @world update invariably results with emerge attempting to pull in sys-block/eject-2.1.5-r2. This predictably results in abort due to the "the above package list contains packages which cannot be installed at the same time on the same system" error.

There are several packages in the system which depend on virtua/eject but none (other than virtual/eject, of course) depending on sys-block/eject.
Moreover, neither virtual/eject nor sys-block/eject are listed in the world file.

Adding sys-block/eject-2.1.5-r2 to /etc/protage/profile/package.provided works around the issue.

Please post emerge --info and "emerge -avuDNt world" output when it's failing
Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2015-07-19 22:32:35 UTC
Please provide the full emerge output, including the package list to be merged and the blocker message.

Comment 4 Marek Szuba archtester gentoo-dev 2015-07-20 14:21:55 UTC
Huh. On one of the machines which exhibited this problem earlier, I've just removed package.provided, run "emerge -avuDNt @world"... and there is no longer a conflict. Will try the other machine later.
Comment 5 Marek Szuba archtester gentoo-dev 2015-07-30 12:00:46 UTC
Can't reproduce it on the other machine either.
